How Away will work
Bluetooth whenever you're close, the internet only when you're not, and an allowance you can always see.
Near the car, always Bluetooth
When the car is in range, Coil talks to it directly, as it does today. That never touches the allowance.
Away, through your phone
Out of range, with the watch connected to your phone, Coil sends the command to our server, which passes it to Tesla and brings back the answer.
A monthly allowance
Tesla charges for every request that reaches a car over the internet, and most for waking one up. The allowance keeps Away's price low and fair, and the watch shows what is left.
At the limit
Bluetooth carries on beside the car, with no limit. Away comes back on the 1st of the month, or straight away if you move up to Away Plus.

Buying
Is the Bluetooth key a subscription?
No. Coil is free for a day from when your watch becomes a key. Then you unlock it once, on this website, and it's yours, with updates included. A licence covers one watch, or two if you choose, and moves to a new watch whenever you like. You can have a full refund within 48 hours.
Do I need Coil Away?
Only if you want your car when you're away from it. Everything beside the car works without it.
How does Coil know I'm away from the car?
Coil always tries Bluetooth first. If it can't find your car within a few seconds, and your watch is linked to Coil Away with your phone connected, it sends the command over the internet instead, and Home says "Coil Away" with the commands you have left. Seat and wheel heat from afar turn the climate on first, as Tesla requires.
What if the car is asleep?
A command wakes it first, which uses one wake-up, and goes through as soon as the car answers, usually within half a minute. Checking the battery never wakes the car: you see the last reading and when it was taken.
How will I pay for Away?
On this website, by card, monthly or yearly, once Away launches.
What counts as a command?
Anything that asks the car to do something over the internet: lock, unlock, climate, the charge port and the rest. Reading the battery or the locks is a status refresh, and waking a sleeping car is a wake-up.
