Coil in a few words

Coil is a Garmin watch app that works as a key for Tesla cars. It locks and unlocks the car, opens the frunk and trunk, and runs the climate and charging from a fēnix 8 over Bluetooth, with no phone, no signal and no account. Coil is an independent app, sold once in Garmin's Connect IQ Store.

The logo

The o of Coil is a coil of flat copper wire, its end cut upright like the ends of the c. The mark is a bolder cut of the same coil, and on its own it is the app's icon.

Download the whole kit (SVG and PNG, with screenshots, in a zip), or each file: wordmark for dark grounds, wordmark for light grounds, white, black, mark, app icon (PNG).

Please do

  • Leave space round the wordmark at least as wide as its o.
  • Keep the wordmark at least 80 pixels wide on screen, or 20 mm in print.
  • Use the porcelain version on dark grounds and the ink version on light ones.
  • Write the name as Coil, with a capital C, in running text.

Please don't

  • Redraw, stretch, outline or add shadows to the logo.
  • Put it on a busy photo; use the one-colour white or black version instead.
  • Combine it with Tesla's or Garmin's logos, or call the app Tesla Coil.
  • Set the name in capitals as COIL.

Colour

Copper and the green it turns with age. Verdigris is the ground, porcelain the light, and copper the one accent: bright on dark grounds, true copper on light ones.

Type and voice

Unbounded, for headlines

Wide and rounded, set bold and tight. The wordmark is drawn from its letters.

Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, for reading

Made for legibility, which suits a key you read at a glance. On the watch, Coil uses the watch's own font.

How Coil talks

Short, plain and warm, like the watch: "Unlocked. Off you go." "Locked. Enjoy the run." It says what happened and what to do next, and never blames anyone.

In stores, Coil's full name is "Coil – Key & Control for Tesla". The app works with Tesla cars; it isn't Tesla's.
